Excellent excellent excellent per usual. Food is always fresh and hot and the flavor is delicious. Kata Robata is always consistent and that's why it's been around for so long with a line at the door for lunch every time I go.
This is a solid spot to have lunch with a couple of friends or a dinner date with someone. If you want an affordable meal, just come for lunch. Their lunch menu has Salad, Sushi combo, Bento box & rice bowl/noodles. We arrived about 12:30pm and got on the waiting list. Waited about 20 minutes which isn't bad for a Friday and mind you they were very busy. Once we were seated, our server Do greeted us. She was friendly and accommodating. My friend and I ordered 2 sushi combos to shared amongst each other & it comes with miso soup as well. I also got the Kobe beef skewer & Katsu don. Let's start with the miso soup. It was decent, it came out warm and not hot but I can look past it. Good amount of tofu & wakame. The broth itself was a little salty but had a lot of flavor. The Kobe beef skewer was delicious, it was like butter; just melts in your mouth. It was tendered, fatty but not over the top & seasoned to perfection; Pink on the inside which was spot on. It was on the expensive side ($22) but worth every penny. This was by far one of the best quality beefs I've ever had. * Tuna nigiri- smelled a little fishy and wasn't that fresh. 2/5 * salmon nigiri- it was smooth and just melts in your mouth. 4.5/5 * unagi nigiri- fair. 2.5/5 * spicy tuna roll- good. 3.5/5 * California roll- simple. 2.5/5 * Crazy roll- very good. 4/5 * Spider roll- generous amount of crab meat. 4/5 My Katsu don was underwhelming and such an uninspiring dish. The cutlet was fried but had no crispness to it & tasted bland. I'm glad it was only 12 bucks because it was not good at all. Overall, it was a good experience. They also have a patio and sushi bar in case you don't want to sit at a table. The decor is beautiful and well put together. Will I come back? To be honest I'll come back just for the skewers.
Amazing experience if you're looking for high-end sushi restaurant with a fairly wide variety of quality fish served numerous ways. The food overall was nothing short of high quality, you'd be able to tell the restaurant put significant effort towards producing each and every dish on the menu everything we ordered was beautifully garnished and presented. We ordered the Kobe beef skewers, O-toro (Premium fatty tuna), Chu Toro (Medium fatty tuna), New Zealand King Salmon, Kampachi (Amberjack), Amberjack Sashimi with Foie Gras, Texas Wagyu Sando, and the strawberry/nutella kakigori shaved ice. All of the sashimi was beautifully plated and was some of the best tasting sashimi I've ever had. No fishiness detected from any of the sashimi and each piece had the perfect firmness and taste distinct to the type of fish we ordered. In particular, the amberjack stole the show for me! Only slight I had was that I wish the strawberry and nutella were a little more distributed throughout the kakigori, but barely a complaint. Our server was Thai, probably some of the best service I received at a fine dining establishment. Prompt and accommodating are understatements to describe our experience. He explained each dish with confidence and even had a fan to cool us from the houston heat! Overall, one of the best places not only to get an amazing Japanese culinary experience, but also to get some of the best service in fine dining.
Chirashi bowl 5/5 Miso Eggplant with Grilled Sushi Rice 4/5 Wagyu Sando 4/5 Overall one of my favorite spots for a nice meal to celebrate an occasion or treat yourself. My go to is the Chirashi bowl during the lunch menu, which offers a good selection of different fish and seafood along with a nice bowl of rice for a very reasonable price. The other appetizers are also delicious, but is a little bit more pricy for the amount of food, though I feel like this speaks more about the value of Chirashi bowl. That said, the Miso eggplant is absolutely delicious. I devoured the dish wayyyy too quickly to get a photo, but its composed with triangle blocks of grilled rice and two-bite size blocks of eggplant paired with a miso sauce. It offers an awesome intro to the meal, though let me hoping the dish is just a little larger. The Wagyu sando is also super delicious. But this may be a little personal preference, but there the sauce is a little too strong and covers the natural taste of the wagyu itself, but I would still strongly recommend you giving it a try, because it will be one of the most tender bites you will ever have!
Came in for a late lunch. Space is large and tables were clean. Attire: chill Kobe beef skewers - this was very soft and (almost melting in your mouth) Lobster and crab ramen - lobster was okay. This would be better if it was spicier. Tropical spicy tuna - this came very quick after we ordered - This was very good. Everything complimented each other and was not heavy on the rice. Sushi platter - my husband enjoyed all of them except the salmon roe
No notes! This is one of my favorite sushi spots, and I was surprised to see that I have never reviewed it before. Ambiance is Houston casual but you can also dress up if you like. The specials are always good, and I also love the sashimi platter for 2. I also really like the Texas Hamachi roll. We always receive great service here, which keeps us coming back!
Had a great lunch at Kata Robata. Had a sashimi bento box and a combination of sushi rolls. I underestimated the amount of food! Sashimi was wonderful, fresh and perfect! The bento box included miso soup, and this was one of the better miso soups I've had. If you don't make lunch reservations, expect to sit at the sushi bar. Worked out well sitting at the sushi bar for lunch. Service: good service Overall cleanliness: excellent Bathroom cleanliness: excellent Overall value: good value for the quality of sushi Misc: parking is a nightmare
This place is among the Mt Rushmore of the best Houston restaurants in my honest opinion. From everything with the high class service, the quality of the food, and then ambiance, it's something that's hard to top. One of my favorite bites I've ever had the pleasure of biting is the beef sando. Fantastic recommend that enough. Had the chef's omakase for 6 pieces and did not disappoint. Always a surprise in what they'll bring out
TLDR: Great spot for dates, catchups and good sushi among other meals. Food? Delicious! 4/5 Service? Speedy! 4.7/5 Ambiance? Loud, but fun and trendy! 4/5
Kata Robata made me fall in love with sushi. Before I dined, I didn't really like sushi but kata's fresh, high quality, and delicious sushi changed that real quick. All the waiters are knowledgeable with their suggestions. All of their sushi is so so so good. My favorites outside of the sushi are the katsu sando (super rich and filling) and the ramen. Can't sing enough praise about Kata! Plenty of parking in the plaza!
